A dairy farm is an agricultural facility dedicated to raising and maintaining animals kept for their milk. Classically, a dairy farm houses cows, although it is also possible to raise goats, sheep, yaks, and other animals for their milk. The goal of a dairy farm is to produce high volumes of good quality, safe milk and milk products, and to export them to the surrounding region.

Humans have been keeping animals for their milk for centuries, but the dairy farm didn’t really catch on in a big way until people figured out how to handle milk safely. Historically, many communities had a few milk animals which were handled and driven communally, and establishments such as abbeys might keep animals for the purpose of making cheese and other goods for sale. Individual farmers and landholders generally made their own milk and cheese as needed from their cows, sheep, and other animals.

With the advent of storage tanks, pasteurization, refrigeration, and roads accessible to milk trucks in the 1800s, the modern dairy farm began to evolve. Most dairy farms today have large numbers of animals, in the hundreds or thousands as opposed to the dozens found on small farms through the early 20th century, and they produce huge volumes of milk.

The farm includes pasture and shelter for the animals, along with areas for sheltering cows while they labor and give birth. Dairy farms usually keep a bull on hand, or order semen for artificial insemination to get access to especially good bloodlines, and they also have a facility known as a milking parlor, where the cows are milked. Historically, this was done by hand, but modern milking parlors usually utilize milking machines. The milk is transported in sterile tubes to tanks so that it can be tested for pathogens before being pooled on a milk truck. The milk truck takes the milk to a central location for processing.

A dairy farm may also have fields for the purpose of growing fodder, to cut down on costs for the farm. Farms which serve special markets like people seeking organic products can also be found.

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDQR0IXhvgI[/youtube]

Small dairy farms may make their own cheese, butter, yogurt, clotted cream, and other dairy products for sale in the community. This requires special skills and additional licensing and inspections, leading many farmers to prefer to sell their milk to dairy cooperatives or specific manufacturers of products like cheese rather than handling it themselves. When consumers in the store buy Milk Brand X, they are usually buying milk from a large number of farmers who sell their milk to Milk Company , rather than milk from cows belonging to that particular brand.

An efficient breeding program is essential to a dairy operation, since production is dependent on dairy cows’ lactation, which can happen only after they give birth. Dairy farms may also specialize; for example, they may produce milk only for use in cheese, cream for ice cream or all-organic milk. Startup costs for a dairy farm can be substantial, however, so follow these steps to minimize your risk.

Starting your own dairy farm can be a matter of full-time employment, hobby farming or anything in between.

5 steps to start up your own successful dairy farm:

1.

Work for a dairy farmer before you consider starting your own farm. Many dairy farmers were raised on farms and either inherited from their parents or branched out on their own. If you weren’t born into farming, however, you need to work on a farm before buying one for two reasons: first, because this is the only way to know if you truly enjoy dairy farming and second, because the experience you gain as an employee can’t be learned in a classroom or from books.

2.

Start with 45 to 50 of the best cows you can buy. Minimize debt by renting land and buying used equipment; you can always upgrade these later. But if you begin with poor-producing cows, you’ll always be trying to rebuild your herd and you may never be able to catch up.

3.

Use family labor. Coerce your relatives to help you work the farm, if you can. The fewer people on the payroll at first, the better. Keep costs as low as possible.

4.

Connect with other farmers. Chances are you aren’t the only dairy farmer in the area. Find others with whom you can swap tips, share equipment and grazing pastures and purchase supplies in bulk.Helps dairy farmers get together and help eachother.

5.

Consider education. Most universities with agriculture departments have dairy specialists on their faculties. Major in Animal Science with an emphasis on dairy production, and minor in biology or botany.

Former world champion boxer Anthony Mundine has beaten long-time rival Danny Green on a unanimous points decision in a non-title World Boxing Association (WBA) super middleweight bout. Mundine, an ex-rugby league star promoted the much-anticipated fight that attracted around 40,000 spectators and a national record for a pay-per-view television event.

“Who’s the man, who’s the man?” Mundine asked the crowd after the fight. Western Australia’s Danny Green (the “Machine”) was defeated after 12 rounds at the Sydney Football Stadium by “the Man” Mundine. Mundine has improved his overall record to 26 wins and three losses. His victory sets up a world title bout against Denmark’s Mikkel Kessler.

After the bout Mundine praised his opponent’s tenacity: “I just wanna’ thank Danny for a great fight… I was starting to get loose man, Danny was starting to put a lot of pressure on me, he’s got a good long jab, I had to evade that,” said Mundine. “I utilized my speed to catch him and it paid dividends. I was looking for the knockout, I caught him with a few great shots, [and] he can take a great punch. He put up a good performance. He come around, he come prepared – I was the better man tonight Dan, thank you very much. We can do it again maybe, soon.”

Green agreed that Mundine fought the better fight. “He just beat me fair and square. I have no excuses at all, I trained unbelievable, my preparation was great… Anthony was the better man tonight,” said Green.

The WBA fight consolidated six years of taunts and hyperbole to settle a long-running feud between the men and their supporters. According to media reports the battle was personal from the outset with Mundine’s mother Lyn yelling at her son from ringside to “Knock him out Choc, shut him up my baby”.

Sports media commentators reported that the pace remained hectic in the first four rounds as Mundine stood firm and used his jab as Green mixed his trademark “power punches.” As the fight wore on, Mundine appeared in greater control and in better condition. However, Mundine did end up on the canvas in the seventh round, after being pushed through the ropes by Green.

Throughout the fight, Green’s power punches “missed, missed and missed again”. In the final “ferocious” round, Mundine rocked Green with a combination to the head, taunting Green to “Come on.” Green attempted plenty of combinations, but Mundine’s speed caused problems. After 12 rounds, Judge Pinit Prayadsab from Thailand gave the fight to Mundine 118-11, South Korean Michael Lee scored it 116-113 and Australian Derek Milham had it 118-112.

Australian newspapers report that the appreciative crowd included corporate CEOs, former world heavyweight champion Joe Frazier, bikie gangs, peroxide blondes and rugby league players. Referee Terry O’Connor described the event as a fight Australia can be proud of. “They both gave their all, it was a great fight.” He described the atmosphere at Aussie Stadium as “fantastic” “It was the greatest fight I have refereed, it was brilliant,” O’Connor said.

The “Man v Machine” event fight, promoted by Mundine’s Boxa International and the “Green Machine” promoters is believed to have beeen the “biggest boxing match in Australian history”, grossing an estimated $20 million. Each boxer is reported to be earning a seven-figure sum, while spectators have paid up to A$1000 for a seat at the bout. Foxtel reported record sales for their exclusive pay-per-view event, claiming that subscriptions outsold the Lennox Lewis v Mike Tyson heavyweight bout. Heavy betting ensued with one punter laying a $500,000 bet on Mundine to take the honours.

Of his upcoming bout with Denmark’s Mikkel Kessler, Mundine said: “It was a close fight last time. I think he’s the best fighter out there, but I’ve shown I can match it with him. I’m ready.”

In May 2008, the candidates of the United States presidential election campaigned and faced questions on as wide ranging issues as assassination, Hitler and the death of one’s political career. The month more clearly showed who the Democratic Party candidate would be, and potentially narrowed the field for the Vice-Presidential race in the Republican Party. A third-party candidate also emerged who could potentially change the outcome of the election.

Democrats
  • Hillary Clinton won the Kentucky and West Virginia Primaries by a wide margin and narrowly won in Indiana despite calls from prominent Democrats for her to drop out of the race after heavy losses in the North Carolina and Oregon primaries.
  • Barack Obama’s victories in North Carolina and Oregon propelled him to large leads in the delegate count, and he picked up new superdelegates at a higher rate than Hillary Clinton, including the endorsement of former candidate John Edwards. Members of the press including George Stephanopoulos and Tim Russert declared Obama as the Democratic candidate with Russert asserting “We now know who the Democratic nominee’s going to be, and no one’s going to dispute it.”
  • Hillary Clinton continued her push to count the delegates from Florida and Michigan where she won, but whose votes were not being counted because of the state’s breach of DNC rules by holding the primaries too early. Barack Obama was not on the ballots when these states held their primaries.
  • A series of gaffes by the candidates included Barack Obama stating that he had visited 57 states, and Hillary Clinton declaring that anything could happen in the election in June stating “We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California”. The former, persuaded columnist Michelle Malkin to publish an article “Gaffe machine” that chronicled campaign gaffes made by Obama as a candidate. The latter, was perceived by some as alluding to the possibility that Obama could be assassinated as Robert Kennedy in 1968.
Republicans
  • Presumptive nominee John McCain attacked Barack Obama over his comments that compared the Soviet Union to the threat of Iran, describing the latter as a “tiny” threat. McCain stated that Obama had exhibited “inexperience and reckless judgment” in his assessment. Obama responded by stating “that the Soviet Union had the ability to destroy the world several times over, had satellites spanning the globe, had huge masses of conventional military power, all directed at destroying us.” The back and forth followed a debate between President Bush and Obama over Bush’s assessment that Obama’s position to talk to Iran was representative of appeasement.
  • Media reports surfaced of McCain supporter and preacher John Hagee‘s comments from 2007 that “the force and fear of Hitler’s Nazis drove the Jewish people back to the only home God ever intended for the Jews to have: Israel.” McCain immediately rejected the endorsement of Hagee after hearing reports of the comments.
  • John McCain’s search for a running mate continued as the senator invited three candidates to his ranch in Arizona. McCain invited former Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate Mitt Romney, Florida governor Charlie Crist, and the youngest governor in the nation, Indian-American Bobby Jindal of Louisiana. The invitations led to speculation that the McCain campaign had narrowed the vice-presidential nomination search to the three.
Third Parties
  • At the Libertarian Party convention, former GOP Congressman Bob Barr was nominated as the party’s presidential nominee on its sixth ballot. Wayne Allyn Root was named his running mate. Barr had entered the race two weeks prior to the nomination and was considered to be a possible spoiler for the Republicans in November because of Barr’s conservative positions.
  • Also at the Libertarian Party convention, former Democratic Senator Mike Gravel ended his political career after losing on the fourth ballot. He stated, “From 15 years old to now, my political career is over, and it’s no big deal. I’m a writer, I’m a lecturer, I’m going to push the issues of freedom and liberty. I’m going to push those issues until the day I die.”

A recent study by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) shows that the oil and gas industry are creating earthquakes. New information from the Midwest region of the United States points out that these man-made earthquakes are happening more frequently than expected. While more frequent earthquakes are less of a problem for regions like the Midwest, a geology professor from the University of Southern Indiana, Dr. Paul K. Doss, believes the disposal of wastewater from the hydraulic fracturing (or “fracking”) process used in extracting oil and gas has the possibility to pose potential problems for groundwater.

“We are taking this fluid that has a whole host of chemicals in it that are useful for fracking and putting it back into the Earth,” Doss said. “From a purely seismic perspective these are not big earthquakes that are going to cause damage or initiate, as far as we know, any larger kinds of earthquakes activity for Midwest. [The issue] is a water quality issue in terms of the ground water resources that we use.”

Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a technique used by the oil and gas industries which inject highly pressurized water down into the Earth’s crust to break rock and extract natural gas. Most of the fluids used for fracking are proprietary, so information about what chemicals are used in the various fluids are unknown to the public and to create a competitive edge.

Last Monday four researchers from the University of New Brunswick released an editorial that sheds light on the potential risks that the current wastewater disposal system could have on the province’s water resources. The researchers share the concern that Dr. Doss has and have come out to say that they believe fracking should be stopped in the province until there is an environmentally safe way to dispose the waste wastewater.

“If groundwater becomes contaminated, it takes years to decades to try to clean up an aquifer system,” University of New Brunswick professor Tom Al said.

While the USGS group which conducted the study says it is unclear how the earthquake rates may be related to oil and gas production, they’ve made the correlation between the disposal of wastewater used in fracking and the recent upsurge in earthquakes. Because of the recent information surfacing that shows this connection between the disposal process and earthquakes, individual states in the United States are now passing laws regarding disposal wells.

The problem is that we have never, as a human society, engineered a hole to go four miles down in the Earth’s crust that we have complete confidence that it won’t leak.

“The problem is that we have never, as a human society, engineered a hole to go four miles down in the Earth’s crust that we have complete confidence that it won’t leak,” Doss said. “A perfect case-in-point is the Gulf of Mexico oil spill in 2010, that oil was being drilled at 18,000 feet but leaked at the surface. And that’s the concern because there’s no assurance that some of these unknown chemical cocktails won’t escape before it gets down to where they are trying to get rid of them.”

It was said in the study released by the New Brunswick University professors that if fracking wastewater would contaminate groundwater, that current conventional water treatment would not be sufficient enough to remove the high concentration of chemicals used in fracking. The researchers did find that the wastewater could be recycled, can also be disposed of at proper sites or even pumped further underground into saline aquifers.

The New Brunswick professors have come to the conclusion that current fracking methods used by companies, which use the water, should be replaced with carbon dioxide or liquefied propane gas.

“You eliminate all the water-related issues that we’re raising, and that people have raised in general across North America,” Al said.

In New Brunswick liquefied propane gas has been used successfully in fracking some wells, but according to water specialist with the province’s Natural Resources Department Annie Daigle, it may not be the go-to solution for New Brunswick due its geological makeup.

“It has been used successfully by Corridor Resources here in New Brunswick for lower volume hydraulic fracturing operations, but it is still a fairly new technology,” Daigle said.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is working with U.S. states to come up with guidelines to manage seismic risks due to wastewater. Under the Safe Drinking Water Act, the EPA is the organization that also deals with the policies for wells.

Oil wells, which are under regulation, pump out salt water known as brine, and after brine is pumped out of the ground it’s disposed of by being pumped back into the ground. The difference between pumping brine and the high pressurized fracking fluid back in the ground is the volume that it is disposed of.

“Brine has never caused this kind of earthquake activity,” Doss said. “[The whole oil and gas industry] has developed around the removal of natural gas by fracking techniques and has outpaced regulatory development. The regulation is tied to the ‘the run-of-the-mill’ disposal of waste, in other words the rush to produce this gas has occurred before regulatory agencies have had the opportunity to respond.”

According to the USGS study, the increase in injecting wastewater into the ground may explain the sixfold increase of earthquakes in the central part of the United States from 2000 – 2011. USGS researchers also found that in decades prior to 2000 seismic events that happened in the midsection of the U.S. averaged 21 annually, in 2009 it spiked to 50 and in 2011 seismic events hit 134.

“The incredible volumes and intense disposal of fracking fluids in concentrated areas is what’s new,” Doss said. “There is not a body of regulation in place to manage the how these fluids are disposed of.”

The study by the USGS was presented at the annual meeting of the Seismological Society of America on April 18, 2012.

Whenever a home is threatened by natural events or pests, homeowners should take quick action to protect their property. While many environmental concerns can damage a home, pest infestation is one of the most damaging and severe. Termites are especially threatening and are capable of causing extreme damage to a home in a short period of time. Any homeowner who feels termites may be present on their property should immediately seek the help of an experienced exterminating service. Termites Removal in Folsom CA, requires specific products and treatments to regain control of the home and rid the area of these pests.

Termites will eat all types of natural building materials, but they greatly prefer to eat wood. Those with wood frame homes, dead trees, or other wooden structures on their property should regularly check for the presence of termites. If left untreated, termite infestations can quickly cause massive issues to homes. Termite colonies of thousands can appear from only a few initial bugs and, as the colonies grow, they require more food. This can be devastating to homes as the insects continue to eat more and more of the building. The structural damage that requires massive repair work and expensive reer Termite & Pest Control should be called for help as soon as possible.

Termites Removal in Folsom CA, is possible by using several different methods. The home can be tented and fumigating using toxic gases that kill all of the insects inside. For this type of treatment, people will have to leave their homes for a period of a few days, as the gases are also harmful to humans and pets. Fumigation is very effective at removing all of the present insects, but it does not protect against future infestations. Another option is to use pesticide spikes that will be inserted into the foundation, siding, and ground around the home. This option takes longer to work, but it does keep termites from developing in the future.

Termites are capable of causing a large amount of damage to a home. When termites are suspected near a home, it is best to get help from a qualified exterminator. By using either fumigation or poison spikes, termite colonies can be eradicated.

Following the first day’s events at the 2008 Taipei International Book Exhibition (TIBE), organisers used today as an opportunity for a number of autograph sessions, the announcement of awards and a focus on the Taipei World Trade Center‘s Hall 3 where children’s activities and seminars were being held.

The Kids’ Book Hall, which was created with cooperation from the Regional Association of Educational Materials, saw a new addition this year in the form of the “Taiwan Stationery” pavilion. The display included a variety of paper products not only for children, but for small-business and general usage.

In order to promote some conceptions on environment and recycling, Yuen Foong Yu Paper Mfg. Co. Ltd. sponsored the exhibition with recycled poster container and corrugated-fiberboard, which was used to design several nature scenes, and the material will be reusable in the future.

Participants also held several seminars at TWTC Hall 1 for reading population promotion, for example, a Taiwanese version of a famous magazine named “Kagakuru”. Aimed at science education, imported by Taiwan Mac Education, and promoted by several academic professionals in Taiwan, the magazine will be released on March 3, 2008.

Freelance journalist writing for Wikinews, Gabriel Pollard, with help from Brian Anderton, has interviewed New Zealand-based blogger, David Farrar on blogging, web 2.0, and the Internet in general.

David Farrar is most known for his “fairly popular” blog, Kiwiblog, where he posts on various topics, including politics and technology. He is the vice-president of the Internet Society of New Zealand, and has been involved in helping to split Telecom New Zealand up and in anti-spam legislation.

David Farrar first started using the “best invention ever,” Internet, in February 1996 after having owned a BBC Micro microcomputer since 1982. On the Internet he debated various issues using Usenet newsgroups. Kiwiblog now serves for this purpose. He then got his own personal Internet account with ihug in August of that year.

Farrar also has political ties, which can be seen in some of his blog posts. For eight years, Farrar worked for various Prime Ministers (PM) and Opposition leaders for the National Party, working with the likes of former PM Jim Bolger and former PM Jenny Shipley in the Media Services Unit of Ministerial Services.

Until Farrar landed himself a job in parliament, he had been using mainly Apple computers, “[I] finally converted to Microsoft in 1997 after being the only person in Parliament to have a Mac!”

Farrar was involved with introducing public e-mail for ministers, and the first Prime Minister website.

In 2004, after leaving politics, Farrar set up his polling and research company.

Kiwiblog, sparked by now defunct blog NZ Pundit by Gordon King, currently receives over 300,000 visitors a month. He suspects that Russell Brown, and the Spareroom blogs get well over 100,000 visitors. “There’s then probably a dozen or so other bloggers who get into the tens of thousands.”

“Gordon [King] would post wonderful polemics challenging the conventional thinking and reporting, and after a few months of reading him I realized that I also had views and could try sharing them with the world. So in July 2003 I made my first post, and enjoyed it ever since.”

Farrar admits to not having a deliberate strategy for promoting himself and his blog, he just found that doing more posts in a day and posting what he was interested in got the visitors that were interested in the same things. “Oh and most important of all is to have a sense of humour and enjoy doing it.”

If Farrar wasn’t blogging, he says he would be “Earning money! I spend far too long blogging when I should be working on more business. However it is doing well enough that I can divide my time up between my business, InternetNZ and blogging and not starve.”

Farrar has a few tips for those politicians who have started a blog, or are looking at starting one up, “Very few are successful because [they] treat it as a one way communication tool where they just post press releases or travel diaries. Rodney Hide is the best example of doing it the right way. John Key is video blogging and responding to comments through future videos, which is a different way to interact.” But still warns that most readers of blog prefer “honest opinion” instead of reading what the politicians want them to read.

Farrar is a huge supporter of Wikipedia and says that he uses it multiples times a day. He says that he was “very proud” when the Wikipedia community regarded him as notable enough to have his own entry.

“I wish I had more time to edit Wikipedia. There’s lots more NZ content to get onto there.”

Sites like YouTube, which Farrar uses daily, show that they can leave big brand names like Google Video for dead if they show strong innovation, Farrar says.

Farrar says the success to websites such as Wikipedia and YouTube is because of multiple user generated content, “…rather than tightly controlled content from one source.” The focus on the community at large is also a major factor of their success.

When asked where he sees the Internet in decades from now, his simple response was, “I wish I knew.” But he does predict every house in New Zealand will be connected to the Internet via fibre optics.

One scenario Farrar drew was, “…being able to see a map of your local area on your phone, and not just get told where the nearest toilets or bookstore is, but also if any of your friends are nearby.”

David Farrar would just like to say thanks for the opportunity of being interviewed on Wikinews.

Yesterday, Zomato, a food ordering and restaurant finding company, announced security breach of more than 17 million accounts, via their official blog. A hacker operating under the alias nclay uploaded evidence to prove they had the stolen data — hashed passwords and emails — for sale, Hackread.com reported. Zomato later announced they contacted the hacker, who asked Zomato to organise a bug bounty programme.

The food ordering company, with 120 million monthly users, said the payment information of the users was not located with this data and was not leaked. Zomato said it uses PCI Data Security Standards.

As a security measure, all the passwords of the involved Zomato accounts were reset and all of the accounts were forcibly logged out from the application and website. The company said only hashed passwords were compromised.

Hashed passwords are encrypted and, per Zomato, every password had a different “salt”, for cryptographic salting was performed before hashing the original password. A “salt” is a random set of characters added before encryption to make decryption to obtain the original passkey more difficult.

The hashed password itself can not be used to access the account. In the blog post before contacting the hacker, saying “internal (human) security breach”, Zomato suggested this could have happened after a worker’s development account was hijacked. After contacting the hacker, and promising a bug bounty programme on Hackerone, they said, the hacker agreed and removed the stolen data which was put on sale on the dark web. Zomato said they are looking forward to working closely with the ethical hacker community on security vulnerabilities.

The Forex Revolution Review – The Advantages of Using FOREX Robots

by

Forex is really a term used to stand for that foreign exchange market. Many currency traders use online Foreign exchange brokers to buy then sell currency. Forex traders often use technical analysis to create their trading decisions. This requires studying mixtures of price action (through chart patterns that emerge as price moves up, down and to the side) and technical indicators, which are provided with any good trading software or charting website. Forex robots automatically make trades depending on technical analysis techniques. There are numerous scam robots which make outrageous and untrue claims.

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2Ne4GRijLM[/youtube]

A Forex robot is software that generates trading signals and then automatically places real-time buy and sell orders inside your brokerage account. There are many different ones to choose from, like a search of “Forex robot” on the Internet will begin to reveal. Some robots can be programmed with a trader; others come preconfigured and can only be updated through the robot vendor. Research the offerings carefully to make sure you purchase a robot with the features you desire for your type of trading. Speed All Forex robots are designed to trade in tangible time. To do this, they have to instantaneously recognize price changes for those monitored currencies, evaluate whether or not to issue an order and, if appropriate, place an order with your broker. Humans just can’t operate in the speed of a robot, which makes human traders susceptible to price “slippage” — price changes occurring in the interim between signal generation and order execution. The issue escalates using the number of currencies traded. A great Forex robot can real-time trade in a half-dozen currency pairs simultaneously, an impossible task for an investor. Stealth Should you do business with a dealing desk broker — market makers who trade against their clients — you do not want to “tip your hand” in advance of your trades. This means you don’t want to place limit or stop orders, because these tell your broker exactly how to manipulate prices to defeat your trading strategy. A limit order tells the broker at what price you will enter a situation. A stop order specifies when a winning or losing position is going to be closed — through take-profit and stop-loss orders respectively. A Forex robot can be employed in “stealth mode”: it enters orders automatically in real time as prices reach your entry or exit points. Your broker may have no advanced knowledge of your upcoming trades and is thus denied a decisive advantage in the zero-sum battle for Forex profits. Discipline Unlike humans, Forex robots are neutral; they do not experience greed or fear. This is a decided advantage because humans can do lots of damage to their accounts by trading emotionally. After experiencing a loss, some traders become gun-shy; others become gung-ho. But the best response is to merely keep your composure and adhere to your trading strategy. You will find traders who can successfully manage their emotions in stressful trading situations. If you’re not one of them, a robot can provide the discipline you do not have. Considerations Leave your computer switched on when running forex robots. Also make sure to operate good money management techniques, allowing the robots to bet only a small amount per trade initially, or letting them run only on practice accounts or accounts funded having a limited amount. Now, let’s talk about The Forex Revolution created by David Heath and just how it might assist you. I really hope this simple The Forex Revolution Review will aid you to differentiate whether The Forex Revolution is Scam or perhaps a Genuine. This all depends upon how your Ea’s are set up.
