Are car dealerships supposed to register a car before selling it?

When a car dealership sells someone a used car does the car dealership have to register the car in their name before selling it, or can they just pass the title from the person they got it from onto the person who bought the car? I bought a car and this is what the dealership did.
Also, if they are supposed to register the car. Would it be just whatever the name of the business is, or would it be the name of the person who owns the business?

They register it WHEN they sell it, and in the name of the buyer.

One document the buyer signs is something called a "limited power of attorney," which legally permits someone from the dealership to register the car on your behalf.

This is important in the case of leased or financed automobiles; once titled and registered, the title would be forward to the financial institution to be held in trust until the note has been satisfied (paid off).

When financing a used car, and applying to register it, do I need the title or is it held by the lender?

I just bought a used car, and financed it through a credit union. Next, I need to get the license plates. I do not have the title, but I do have the "Application for Title." Does the credit union hold onto the title until I’ve paid off the loan, or do I need to somehow get the title in order to get my plates? I am in Missouri.

All you have to bring is the bill of sale from the place where you bought the used car from. They will also need proof of insurance. The title is held by lender until all loans are satisfied.

How long does it take to get a car title back from Capital One Auto Financing after the loan balcance is paid?

Auto finance is what I do for a living and Capital One is one of my lenders.

When we do a pay off to them it normally takes around 10 working days to get the title.

Virtually every country in the World has some form of a hybrid vehicle. Just GOOGLE ‘hybrid’ in conjunction with any country’s name and your screen will be filled with them.

Years ago I stated we should put a bigger tariff on oil to keep it balanced, then the Asian market crash and $10 a barrel oil, instead of $20. So wouldn’t it help our auto industry it they put a $10,000 tariff on all imported cars, this way they could use that money to pay the national debt, it would cut down on sales and people would probably buy here. granted it might make a difference on someone buying a $35,000 Sentra, but not much when politician buys a Rolls Royce.

Many "foreign" models actually have more US-created content than, say, some Ford models. That just doesn’t work as well as it might. I agree there should be a stiff luxury tax on cars over $60,000 or so.

OK, well, im 16 and I just got my permit and Im getting my license some time around February. Im driving my dad’s old 1983 GMC S-15 High Sierra Pickup truck that he’s had since before I was born, and I want to fix it up and make it look like this S-15: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3012400 .

so far we are going to put a 3 inch body lift on it and straight-pipe it but we need to know what accessories these are on this truck, I pointed them out in this picture and numbered them so they could be answered accordingly. also whats the tire-size on that?

I recommend you find a body lift that has bumper relocation brackets. Notice how far the rear bumper in your pics is from the body. That is because it has a body lift and did not relocate the bumper along with the body. Thin 33s or 31s would look good on that truck. Thicker tires will scream 80s.

Where can i take my car to get parts installed?

I dont know a thing about installing car parts, so where can i take the car to get fixed up after i get the parts. Should i go to places like autozone or pep boys. Or just local auto body shops? BTW im talkin about basic car parts and performance parts like air filters, spark plugs, or things like cold air intakes.

air filters, spark plugs and cold air intakes you can do yourself. if your not confident enough then get a haynes manual at autozone for 20 bucks. they’re vehicle specific and pretty well laid out
