As I ve planned to convert my car to an electric car I need to buy some of the necessary parts for the conversion what are all the things to be kept in mind while buying these electric car parts.

While purchasing the electric car parts do it online from licensed dealers and make price comparisons from different dealers before you buy. Please Try to avoid buying car parts that are used it is rather a risky thing to do as these parts don’t come with any guarantee and always buy parts that come with an exchange policy so that you can return any parts that do not fit your requirements perfectly.

Im thinking about applying for a job at a dealership where i’d be ordering car parts, any good web pages?

Posted in: car parts | | 1 Comment »>

Im considering applying at a dealership and I’d be ordering parts for customers. I need to be familiar with car parts. Anybody know a good website i can brush up on my knowledge of car parts?

Without automotive experience a job like this isn’t likely in your future. You have to know cars, you have to know the difference between a control arm bushing and a tie rod end. You need to recognize that a 1998 Camaro came with a 350, not a 305. You need to know how to ask the right questions so you know you are ordering the correct parts because most of the times the customer is going to walk in and say "I need that thing that goes on engine, I don’t know what it’s called and I don’t know which engine my car has". It’s up to you to figure it out.

You don’t get that knowledge from reading a wedsite, you get it from practical work experience.

help purchasing car parts from a private seller?

Posted in: car parts | | 5 Comments »>

I found a private seller online that has a car part that i want, he is accpeting a cash offer, and wants me to wire the money to him. We both live in the same state, and he has it listed on ebay auction. I was wondering what is the safest way to make this deal without having to give him the money and not get the parts he promised. I would like some help here the part is 1200 dollars. Anyone have any tips?

see if he accepts Paypal… I’d never wire that kind of cash to someone I’ve never met, no matter how many positive feedback responses he has.

What % of "made in America" car parts are really made in America, GM seems to import most of the components?

Posted in: car parts | | 5 Comments »>

I worked for a part supplier for some time, we were under constant pressure from the OEM s to use off shore suppliers for things like bolts and to shift work to China or Eastern Europe where labour is cheaper. So if I bought a "made in America" car how much of the parts not just the assembly come from the USA?

I don’t have actual numbers, but if you look on the sticker of a brand new car, it will usually show where it was assembled, where the engine was manufactured, and where the transmission was manufactured. If you can get all three of those to be USA, then that’s a start.

How to paint plastic car parts?

Posted in: car parts | | 1 Comment »>

I have a ‘96 grand prix whit a lot of plastic parts. So how would i paint them?

The clear coat has began peeling off so it looks bad. I’m going to paint them white. Car is currently red.

First sand it with 500 to 600 grit sand paper. Make sure you see no gloss afterward, if you do sand more and get all the gloss out. Then take red scotch brite and scuff all the parts. Finally clean it with Wax and Grease remover and remove any debris, fingerprint or whatever with tack cloth and paint it. Since its plastic your painting use flex additive in your paint. Spray it! Good luck.

Whats the best way to sell your USED Car Parts?

Posted in: car parts | | 2 Comments »>

I have a 2001 lexus es300, that’s been in a wreck, the repair will exceed the book value of the car, and the junkyards are offering me very little money, however my mechanic tells me that the transmission and the engine is in perfect shape. So my question is what is the best and Post efficient way to sell the used parts from this car?

Ebay is awesome, you’ll get some great prices, but have to
ship parts.
