To help American auto dealers shouldn’t the Congress impose tariffs on others?
Years ago I stated we should put a bigger tariff on oil to keep it balanced, then the Asian market crash and $10 a barrel oil, instead of $20. So wouldn’t it help our auto industry it they put a $10,000 tariff on all imported cars, this way they could use that money to pay the national debt, it would cut down on sales and people would probably buy here. granted it might make a difference on someone buying a $35,000 Sentra, but not much when politician buys a Rolls Royce.
Many "foreign" models actually have more US-created content than, say, some Ford models. That just doesn’t work as well as it might. I agree there should be a stiff luxury tax on cars over $60,000 or so.

What do auto dealers use to value used cars?
I’ve heard of a "Black Book" of pre-owned car values used by dealerships when they buy and sell used vehicles (kind of like the industry version of the Kelly Blue Book). If so, how can someone who isn’t a dealer get a hold of one of these books?
Most dealers base the price of the vehicle on current dealer auction results. Companies like Black Book have representatives at many auctions, and they rate the condition of the vehicle and note the sales price.
Many of the auction companies also offer either weekly or monthly reports of sales prices. Manheim Auto Auctions (one of the largest auction companies in the country has a pricing program available for dealers to download, and that also can be accessed on line.
The auction reports are proprietary information, and are not available to the public. Black Book will sell you a subscription to their publications, but unless you are a dealer, you really do not need a weekly update!
Black book has a website, but you have to pay to use it! You do not have to be a dealer!

The NADA book is not the Black Book. The NADA book is yellow, and is only updated monthly
Do auto dealers really install immobilization computer chips to enable easier repossession?
I was told by a dealer that his firm installed a chip in the car I wanted to purchase. He also said that if the payment was ever considered two days late, that the lender could remotely disable the car and find it via GPS. He finished by saying that repossession action would start immediately. Is this true? How popular is it? What recourse does a potential buyer have in the process? Thanks.
It may or may not be true. Either way, the dealer wants you to know he expects to be paid on time and there will be consequences if you don’t. If you were a good credit risk, you wouldn’t have to buy from those kind of dealers.
Recourse ? LOL
Never be late and they will never immobilize it.
Either that or keep it running 24 hours a day. They cant immobilize a running car.

How long do auto dealers keep record information?
Hey,
I applied for a 2009 dodge 1500 4×4 3 months ago, but got denied, for the fact that I put my income was only $20,000 a year. I really make around $80,000 a year. So I was planning to go reapply for a loan, but I am unsure if I can reapply? Any help is appreciated.
How long the records are kept varies, must companies however do not discard of information less than five years old. I would advise you to go ahead and reapply, do not worry about the records. Just ensure that the information you supply is true this time around. Ensure that all the information required to process your loan is proved to the loans officer. What you could do it to go online to the banks website or the organization you are seeking the loan from and find out the requirements and procedures for the loan. All the best

Does anyone know any used auto dealers that have that 3 day money back guarantee in Ontario?
I’m looking for a used car, but don’t trust very many dealers. I understand that some dealers have an x-day money back guarantee, does anyone know of any in Ontario (maybe around Toronto)?
Thanks in advance
Rather than looking for a three day guarantee, which would have terms and limits, you may want to rethink your approach. A day return policy will usually just allow you to return the car, and have the purchase price applied to another vehicle (not refunded). The thing the dealer will not tell you is if you bring the car back, he will NOT negotiate one cent on the replacement car. You will have to pay list price of keep the first car.
A better approach is to pick out a car you like, and take the car, at your own expense, to a qualified mechanic of your choosing. You are paying the mechanic, so he will be looking out for you. Any dealer that will not allow you to take a car to your mechanic, during the day, at your own expense, locally, should not get your business.
Don’t forget to have a vehicle history report run also.

Do I have to have a auto dealers license or a junk dealers license?
I buy and sell junk cars. Am I supposed to get a dealers license from the DMV after I sell a certain amount of junk cars? Is there a way around getting a dealers licensing, i.e. just using bills of sale? Is it possible to get a dealers license and use your home as physical address?
I did get the city to go for my business which would be considered a junk dealer/transportation business with NO storage allowed, but will the dmv go for that?
Bottomline, how can I sell all the junks that I pick up in the most legal way possible with the situation of not having a storage facility but still making it work?
Each state has its own rules. A summary of rules and contact numbers from the NIADA site is:
